Christine Stanley, is the "Queen of Organizing", whether a plumbing business full of parts, an office with mountains of paperwork, her children's bedrooms or her home, she has the gift of seeing how to plan a layout design. So when she decided on her campsite locations, she considered the shade given by the trees, the levelness of the spot, and how could the natural resources of rocks and hard clay soil be used to create the ultimate rustic campsite. Of course her vision of the park later included more showers and toilets in the upstairs "gift shop" area, a double wide trailer with a porch that holds the registration office, camp supplies and her residence, paved roads, pea-gravel on each site, spring flowers planted everywhere, more trees to shade every site, green lawns for croquette or badminton games, a sewer, a dump site for RV's, and electricity and water for the recreational vehicles.
Christine's favorite organizing tool!
My dad, Alfred Stanley Jr., died in 1968 making my mom a very young widow. Staying in Julian and starting a brand new business was a gutsy thing to do, especially with one child in college and four young boys to raise. And of course she was able to do all this with the help of her children, her father-in-law, Alfred Stanley Sr., and hired workers. (Mr. Stanley Sr. came to California for my dad's funeral and decided to stay and help Mom. He was a great source of encouragement for her.) When she was tired and discouraged and felt like she couldn't go on, Grandpa Stanley would often tell her, "Christine, I know you can do it!" He died in January 1971 at the age of 79.
