The Handmade Bar Area
Open beam ceilings reveal more pine trees that make this cottage a delight to the eye. There is even a bar area that was designed by Christine’s late husband, Alfred Stanley Jr., and her late brother, Floyd Slaton. The wind blown pine tree that fits perfectly into the curve of the living room corner came from the top of the hill east of the cottage. The two men didn’t even have to trim the curve once they drug it off the mountaintop. Once the tree was slabbed forming a straight top, hours of sanding and then massive coats of Marine Spar Varnish was applied to create the smooth surface. The barstools were made from the leftover tree trunk… the bark was stripped and the surface sanded slightly then each segment received 3 inches of foam rubber covered with naughahyde.
